Qatar University is a research university located on the northern outskirts of Doha, the capital of Qatar. It is the only public university in Qatar. The university has ten departments: Arts and Sciences, Business and Economics, Education, Engineering, Law, Sharia and Islamic Studies, College of Health Sciences, College of Medicine, College of Dental Medicine and College of Pharmacy. Its courses are taught in Arabic and English. A foundation program is put in place for primary students entering university, which ensures they acquire proficiency in math and English.
Some of the departments of the university have received recognition from several organizations around the world or are currently under evaluation. It has graduate academics as well as a research infrastructure. It includes research labs, a marine vessel, technical equipment and a library with a vast collection of rare manuscripts. It works for public and private industry to conduct regional research, particularly in the areas of environment and energy technology. The university has students from fifty-two ethnic groups from around the world, and of these, 65% are Qatari nationals and about 35% are children of expatriates. 70% of the total student population is female and they have their own facilities and separate classrooms.
